Bike Jumps

How you jump on a bicycle

Bike Jumps

To jump the bike all you need to do is to ride it at speed over a ramp of some sort, a propped-up board, a pile of dirt or something. As you pass over the ramp you straighten your arms and legs and off you go.

Bunny hop jump on a Bike

The bunny hop is one of the most useful mountain biking techniques you can learn. It allows you to jump your bike over small obstacles. It's easier to perform a bunny hop if you have clip less pedals installed on your bike rather than platform pedals, but it's possible either way.

  1. Get to a slow or medium speed roll on the bike.
  2. Bend your arms and legs getting ready to pull up and jump.
  3. Angle your feet on the pedals about 45 degrees. This angle helps your shoes grab into the pedals so you can lift it up.
  4. Now pull up hard on the handlebars and at the same time, extend your legs then pull up on the pedals.
  5. Once you can get some air off the ground, practice jumping over things.

Jump a Double on a Mountain Bike

Mountain Bike

While just about anyone can perform a basic bunny hop jump on a mountain bike, advanced jumps are more elusive. The double jump is one of the more difficult types of jumps you can do on a bike. It involves riding a bike up an obstacle, jumping off the top of it and landing on a second obstacle with a downward slope.

Tips & Warnings

  1. Keep your hands wrapped firmly around the grips. Don't have a death grip. Stay relaxed and don't touch the brakes. Keep your chin up when you jump a double. It gives you more height and control.
  2. A double jump is extremely dangerous and should only be attempted by experienced stunt cyclists. Wear safety gear and don't bite off more than you can chew. Be realistic about your abilities, or serious injury could be the result.
